Mate de coca is the popular name of coca tea. It is prepared with the leaves of coca. The tea can be made by boiling the coca leaves or by dipping the tea bags in hot water. The tea originated in the regions of Peru in South America. Cocaine is one of the several alkaloids present in coca tea. The coca leaves contain fiber, protein, starch, volatile oils, dextrin and some kind of sugar. But the percentage of cocaine is so less and is approximately around 0.2%. In order to get one gram of cocaine from the coca leaves, at least 500 grams of those leaves are needed. Coca tea stimulates the nerves due to the presence of several alkaloids. The tea bag is sold in one gram filter bags. Similar to decaffeinating coffee, coca leaves can be decocanized. The decocanized coca tea contains cocaine in very meager amounts. It has proven to be legal to sell the product after the complete removal of cocaine.
Classification and Characteristics
The biological name of coca plant is Erythroxylum coca and it comes under the category of Erthroxylaceae family. It is popularly known as ‘la Hoja de Coca’ [he leaf of coca] and Coca del Peru [coca of Peru].
Coca tea is a pure natural product. The tea retains all the chemical and physical properties of the coca leaves. The tea is light greenish in color and has a bitter flavor. It sometimes resembles green tea, but has better and sweet taste.

You’ve got an interesting site about green tea. We’ve got our own unique use of it in our family. I brew green tea every night and pour the brew in the bath for my son who’s had eczema since he was born. His skin is much better now (he is 2.5 now) but we still keep washing him in green tea brew. This method was recommended to us by some Russian doctors. Of course, we were doing many other things to help his eczema alongside the green tea use. But it was a good complement to the whole process.

I have been drinking a kind of coca tea that i bought on ebay called Windsor coca tea. It is pretty good and I love the taste. I’m glad it is nothing close to cocaine because that is nasty stuff and not at all what i’m interested in!
